Observational drawing
Find an object, person or place to draw. Look carefully. Try to focus, first on proportion and edges and gradually start working toward textures and then light and shadow.
visual journaling
Visual Journaling is a very creative and free way to explore ideas and materials in a visual way. You may be surprised by the results you get if you really dive in. Spend a bit of time learning about what visual journals look like.

Art History Sketchbook Layouts
Each month you will complete a sketchbook layout for a period or style in art history. You will be given class time to do visual research. You may print and image, paint, draw and decorate around them. Your layout should include some information that you read, as well as your own thoughts and opinions about their work (this is almost more important). Your layout should reflect the period of art.
